The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety reports the number of DUI arrests made by the annual East Valley DUI Task Force fell 25% between 2014-2016, while DUI arrests in Arizona as a whole fell by 14% in that time. However, Underage DUI cases are increasing, as is the median blood alcohol level of drivers charged with DUI.
Despite the Phoenix Police Department being understaffed (see our recent blog post HERE), the supervisor of the Phoenix Police traffic unit states DUI enforcement remains a high priority.
Though the number of DUI arrests continue to trend downward, the proportion of fatality accidents involving alcohol (about 33%) has remained relatively the same.
