Certain sections of Arizona’s highways will soon be designated zero tolerance safety corridors, where the State intends to saturate traffic enforcement efforts in an attempt to curb traffic accidents, injuries and deaths in areas identified as high-risk.
The new enforcement efforts have already gone into effect for two sections of I-10 in central Phoenix (one between the I-17 Stack and State Route 51/Loop 202 Mini-Stack, the other between Loop 202 and State Route 187)), and stretches of I-40 west of Kingman, and Highway US 60 in Tempe and Mesa (between Loops 202 and 101), will be completed by January 2017.
Large traffic signs labeling the sections as safety corridors will be posted at the start of the affected areas including the length of the corridor and a reminder of the zero tolerance policy, with another sign marking the end of the corridor.
The program will be evaluated for one to two years before additional Safety Corridors will be considered.
