Deputy Maricopa County Attorney Juan Martinez last week was ordered to one year probation stemming from charges filed by the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice (AACJ) association late last year, to which he has filed an appeal.
The AACJ charged Mr. Martinez with misconduct spanning a decade and 11 cases of murder, including the infamous Arias case. Mr. Martinez was found by the Arizona Supreme Court’s Attorney Discipline Probable Cause Committee to have violated three provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct, including engaging in unprofessional conduct, using improper tactics and misconduct prejudicial to administration of justice. An additional complaint is still under consideration stemming from a book Mr. Martinez wrote on the Arias case, prior to the appeals for the case having been concluded.
A formal hearing has been requested by Mr. Martinez.
