Where do I serve a jail sentence for misdemeanor DUI in Maricopa County?
This is June 26, 2016. Today’s topic is, if I have to serve a sentence for a misdemeanor offense of DUI in Maricopa County where do I serve the sentence? For the vast majority of cases the sentence is served in the Maricopa County jail located at 3250 W. Lower Buckeye Rd., Phoenix. If the case is prosecuted in the Tempe Municipal Court and the sentence is one day it may be served in the Tempe city jail. If the case is prosecuted in the Avondale Municipal Court and the sentences 10 days or less it may be served in the Avondale city jail. If a person is getting work-release for a case where they’re serving the sentence in the lower Buckeye jail they would surrender at the lower Buckeye jail but be transferred to another jail, most commonly the Estrella jail, they would surrender with a jail order specifying the days and hours of work-release and would get out accordingly. If they’re serving the sentence in Avondale they may also get work-release and that would again be pursuant to the terms that the judge would specify on their jail order. If however somebody has serious medical problems so that they are unable to serve the sentence in the Tempe city jail or the Avondale jail or the Estrella jail for work-release then they would have to serve it in the Maricopa County Jail Infirmary which is a part of the lower Buckeye jail.
So that is basically where somebody would serve a sentence for a misdemeanor DUI offense here in Maricopa County.
