Photo enforcement suspended Valleywide

3/30/16  Following the March 16th release of an opinion by Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, several cities around the Valley including Chandler, Mesa, Scottsdale and Phoenix have stopped issuing photo radar or red light citations. The opinion stated that third-party contractors in charge of operating the cameras were not properly licensed in Arizona, and companies wishing to continue operations should license their employees as private investigators as defined by statute.

A Paradise Valley representative has said the town will pursue the proper licensing for its third-party contractor, while in the meantime Paradise Valley police officers will be called on to man the photo enforcement program. It is unclear whether the other cities who still operate such programs will do the same, or abandon them as several other Valley cities have done.
