Armed citizens charged in shooting of suspected DUI driver

6/29/16  Two Phoenix men have been arrested and charged in the shooting of a man they suspected to be driving under the influence (DUI).

The incident, which took place on Monday in the Blue Ridge section of Coconino County, began when the men noticed what appeared to be a DUI driver behind them.  Themselves calling 911, the driver reportedly used his vehicle to in some way “block” the suspected DUI driver, which left the roadway and ended up in the ditch.  The pair then attempted to take the driver’s keys away and, when that didn’t work, fired several shots into his vehicle.  The DUI driver attempted to flee and was ultimately shot in the chest by one of the two men, who now faces a second-degree attempted murder charge, amongst others.
