Proposed NY Bill would equip cops with “Textalyzer”

4/14/16  Proposed legislation in New York would equip law enforcement with a device which could scan drivers’ cell phones and other electronics to determine if the item was in use at the time of an accident. If use was determined, the driver would face charges and potential accident liability. Under the terms of the bill, drivers risk a license revocation for failure to permit the scan.

The technology is currently in development by several companies, one of which, Cellebrite, is alleged to be the mysterious third-party which recently assisted the FBI in recovering data from the encrypted cell phone of one of the San Bernardino attackers.
