2020 Arizona Holiday DUI Enforcement Program to Begin

Police Lights

Each Holiday Season weekend in 2020, police departments in Maricopa County will conduct DUI saturation patrol programs for DUI enforcement. The 2020 program will start on Wednesday November 25, 2020 and will run each weekend through December 31, 2020.

Officers from several police departments around the Valley will conduct coordinated patrols in certain areas, which is not necessarily in jurisdiction, looking for possible DUI drivers. If an officer arrests a driver within the officer’s specific jurisdiction (for example, a Phoenix Police Department officer at a location within the City of Phoenix) the misdemeanor DUI case will be filed in that city’s court (in the above example, into Phoenix Municipal Court). However, if the officer makes an arrest outside their jurisdiction (for example, a Phoenix Police Department officer at a location within the City of Goodyear) the misdemeanor DUI case will be filed in the Maricopa County Justice Court which has jurisdiction for the location of arrest. Felony DUI cases taking place within Maricopa County are not subject to these rules and are filed in the Maricopa County Superior Court.

The police departments set up joint mobile command posts where they can process and test arrested DUI drivers quickly, and in many cases avoid having to book misdemeanor DUI drivers into the Fourth Avenue Jail. Possible felony DUI drivers are generally booked into the jail.
