2016 Sees Phoenix Hiring its First Female Police Chief

Current Phoenix Police Department Chief Joe Yahner, who accepted the position in October 2015, will retire this coming October.  Jeri Williams, who served 22 years with the Phoenix Police Department before accepting the Chief of Police position in Oxnard, California in 2011, was selected from among 65 applicants for the position.

Future Chief Williams is married to Cody Wiliams, Justice of the Peace of the South Mountain Justice Court in Phoenix, and is the mother of Alan Williams, a center for the Phoenix Suns.

Phoenix Vice Mayor Kate Gallego states the hiring makes Phoenix the largest city in the country to have a female Chief in both the Police and Fire Departments.
